Please Join Food Policy Council and partner organizations for a week-long observance and celebration of Food Day!  October 18-26!

Food Day inspires Americans to change their diets and our food policies. Every October 24, thousands of events all around the country bring Americans together to celebrate and enjoy real food and to push for improved food policies.

This year in Knoxville, we are celebrating Food Day by giving back to partners and people in our community working to improve food access. Events include work days at various sites throughout the city and region, A kick-off ceremony at CAC Beardsley Community Farm, a volunteer potluck on Food Day, Abbey Fields self-guided tour, and CAC Beardsley Community Farm’s Harvest Festival! Saturday October 18th: 8am-11am

PSCC Edible Schoolyard at Pond Gap Elementary

  •  1401 Hollywood Road Knoxville, TN 37909
  • Come together for a day of service at Pellissippi State Community College’s first Edible Schoolyard! Activities will include: preparing the garden for winter, weeding, and harvesting. Contact Elias Attea e_eattea@pstcc.edu to sign up! Locally roasted coffee and yummy local refreshments will be provided !

Monday October 20th 10am-3pm

CAC BEARDSLEY COMMUNITY FARM: www.beardsleyfarm.org

  •  1719 Reynold’s Street Knoxville, Tennessee 37921
  •  Please join us at the Knoxville Food Week Kick-Off at CAC BeardsleyCommunity Farm! The morning will begin with a ceremony and work on the farm will follow. The ceremony will include a Food Week Proclamation by a city representative; A word from James Bosi, FPC Chair; a talk about food access and local, sustainable agrictulture by Chad  Hellwinckel, UT Professor and FPC vice-chair; and a word from Knoxville’s Food Week partner organizations. Tuesday October 21st 9am-12pm and 1pm-4pm

SECOND HARVEST OF EAST TENNESSEE: www.secondharvestetn.org

  • 136 Harvest Lane Maryville, TN 37801
  • Help East Tennessee’s largest food bank prepare food for distribution to thousands of families in poverty. Contact Rebekah Jacques at rebekah@secondharvestetn.org to sign up.

Wednesday October 22nd 9am-12pm and 1pm-4pm

KNOXVILLE BOTANICAL GARDEN AND ARBORETUM: www.knoxgarden.org

  • Contribute to Knoxville’s growing urban agricultural endeavors. Come help with weeding, planting winter cover crops, and preparing the new greenhouse! Coffee will be provided by Remedy Coffee and snacks will be provided by Just Ripe!  Contact Jeremy Roberts at e_jroberts@pstcc.edu to sign up.

  • Come enjoy a relaxed, fire-side community potluck at the beautiful Knoxville Botanical Gardens.  Some food will be provided, but bring a favorite dish to share with others if you wish! Please R.S.V.P by Wednesday October 22nd to e_echyatt@pstcc.edu

ABBEY FIELDS: KNOXVILLE’S NEIGHBORHOOD FARM www.abbey-fields.com

  • We will be ending the week with  Beardsley Community Farm’s Harvest Festival! Live music, face painting, food/gardening workshops, and yummy local food included! A fun time will be had by all! Volunteers needed! Contact Khann Chov at beardsleyfarm@gmail.com to sign up!
